Introducing the new Monash University Master of Financial Mathematics

As the financial sector becomes ever more global, complex and risky, the specialist and technical skills of talented mathematicians are increasingly being sought by banks and other financial institutions to help innovate, drive business success and solve potential issues.

The right mathematicians for this task are those with a deep understanding of the world of finance, who can speak its ‘language’.

This is where the new Master of Financial Mathematics comes in. Commencing in 2016 and the only taught postgraduate degree of its kind offered in the cultural capital of Australia – Melbourne, Victoria – this program will be one of the leading Financial Mathematics masters available.

The program will be taught by mathematicians who are pioneering research in areas such as probability and stochastic processes and statistics and who have an impressive range of industry partnerships across the financial and insurance industries. Industry projects and placements are a core component of the degree meaning that you will gain crucial industry experience, leading to successful and fulfilling careers.

This unique Masters program offers training in the core areas of stochastic, financial and insurance modelling, statistical analysis and computational methodology, as well as in a wide range of elective topics from economics, econometrics, finance, mathematics and probability. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of stochastic and statistical analysis, partial differential equations and computational methods in finance, financial econometric techniques and financial and risk modelling.

We are seeking graduates with an aptitude and passion for mathematics and statistics who are strongly interested in finance and insurance and want to make a real difference in the workplace.
